Secret weapon for your skin

As the weather warms up, I was reminded of a very important runner issue... CHAFING.  No kidding, the first time I ran in a tank top (in the beating sun), I came home with more than a good sweat.  Yup, underarm chafe...

I can't complain too much. I used to have chafing issues in a lot more places (read an older post here).  For some reason, my underarms still get irritated when I run in warm weather.  When I forget to glide on protection ahead of time, I need relief... fast.  These little red puppies sting!

That's when I turn to Aquaphor.

I first started using the healing ointment when my children were babies.  My little ones have been blessed with my sensitive skin, so they were always getting little red dry splotches on their baby skin.  Aquaphor provides advanced care for dry, chapped and irritated skin.  It's perfect for sensitive skin like mine because there are no fragrances, dyes and preservatives.

Glide Aquaphor Healing Ointment on pre-run for skin protection.  I especially use this for winter runs to protect my cheeks from the blowing snow and wind.  In the summer, it helps to protect against nasty chaffing.  Use post-run to heal any skin irritations from friction or sweat.

I just recently started using Aquaphor Lip Repair.  In addition to sun exposure, I tend to lick my lips when I run.  So my lips tend to get dried out and sometimes chapped.  Also fragrance, dye and preservative-free, the Aquaphor lip repair is enriched with shea butter, vitamins C and E and chamomile essence for a soothing relief.

  1. I never thought to use the Aquaphor I have sitting on my nightstand for running chafe. I had been using Bodyglide. It was okay, but I wasn't a fan of the stick that fell apart, and it didn't last for longer runs.

Next I tried Mission Anti Chafe cream, which is silicone based. It lasts longer and is easier to spread around where I need it. I really like it and need to pick up some more. Sadly, my chaffing occurs in my groin. I've been using bag balm to help heal.

For my lips, I use the Lansinoh lanolin I have left over from nursing my baby. I put it on before and after my runs, and when I sleep.

  2. OWIE!!! I haven't had this issue-yet...but I've only ran one half as of yet...where do you get the cream?

  3. Most useful post I read all week! This is great to know, I have had minor chafing in the past and would love to know how to prevent it. I use their products because they are so moisturizing! But strangely it's just called Euricin here

  4. I never thought about using Aquaphor before......usually use it after. Totally ditching Glide for Aquaphor! Thanks for the tip!

  5. I use glide...or vaseline in a pinch. Last year during my Half ironman, I realized I needed something on my thigh on the bike ride. With every pedal stroke my leg was rubbing my seat and so I ended up pulling out my chapstick and using that!

  6. I have a picture like that on my blog. I got mine from my arm band that I put my iPod in. I also have them under my breasts (although I am not sure if that is tmi for you or not). I am trying body glide right now, and I have a sample of Skin Sake I am going to try too. But, maybe I also need to try aquaphor as well. Thanks for this, I am glad I am not alone!

  7. I've used the Aquaphor Lip Repair because I get dry lips a lot. But I didn't know that Aquaphor could be used in place of Body Glide. Good tip!

  8. underarm chafe, that is a new one I havent hear of! Aquaphor has been on my radar for years because of my uber dry skin & eczema, my dermatologist recommended it. I never thought of using it as anti chafe. Thanks for the tip!

  9. Ouch! I don't usually have a problem with chafing, but when I do, the hot post-workout shower always lets me know. Thanks for the Aquaphor tip.

  10. I had the same problem a week ago, THanks so much fo rthis tip I have some of that ointment. I will try if for sure post run!! Great tip :)

  11. I love Aquaphor! My whole family uses it and it always makes the chafing seem like it never occurred.
